چکیده
Methods A 50 years old women who had underwent aortic valve replacement (19#HPsjm) + mitral valve replacement (29#sjm) and tricuspid DeVega anuloplasty at our department, was admitted to our hospital with fever. Echocardiography confirmed vegetations on aortic and mitral valves, abscess formation in aortic root, grade IV SEK in left atrium with pulmonary artery pressure of 60-65 mmHg. With positive blood culture, vankomicin + gentamicin medication was ordered. On the follow up, vegetations on the mitral valve disappeared and the ones on aortic cusps regressed in contrary to aortic root abscess. After obtaining negative blood cultures, she was scheduled for an elective operation.

Two factors changed the clinical course of infective endocarditis dramatically: 1) The discovery and evolution of techniques for identifying and treating its microbiologic causes and 2) Valvular surgery. We retrospectively evaluated 43 (33.5%) patients (8 female, 35 male) from 4 to 65 years old of 128 patients with infective endocarditis who underwent surgical intervention. Indication for surge...

The diagnosis of prosthetic valve endocarditis continues to present a diagnostic challenge, due to the lower sensitivity of the modified Duke criteria and a higher percentage of negative or inconclusive echocardiography results. Diagnostic delay might result in significant morbidity/mortality. Imaging modalities like 2-[18F]fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose positron emission tomography/comput...
متن کاملTricuspid Valve Endocarditis in an Intravenous Drug Abuser: A Case Report
Recently, there have been more reports of cardiac valve infections due to the increasing number of intravenous (IV) drug abusers and chronic renal failure patients. Among cardiac valves, tricuspid valve is most commonly affected in the course of endocarditis. Appropriate management of these patients is a challenging and controversial issue in the field of cardiac surgery. Treatment options in s...
متن کاملAntibiotic resistance pattern of bacterial agents isolated from blood culture of patients with infective endocarditis
Background: Infective endocarditis occurs due to the presence of microorganisms in the endocardium or the heart valves. Nowadays, infective endocarditis is still a major cause of death with an incidence rate of 5 to 7.9 per 100,000 populations. The aim of the study was to determine antibiotic resistance pattern of bacterial agents isolated from blood culture of patients with infective endocardi...
